In January 2012, the collaboration for active development communities in Harlem, New york started its campaign to establish a coalition of 500 individuals and organizations to support the improvement of streets.
The partnership`s communication plan outlines the course of action that is intended to develop a popular support for improved street and to establish appropriate transportation procedures and policies that cover both the existing and new street in the jurisdiction of Harlem County.
* Vision
To develop streets that are safe, can withstand the test of time and easy to maintain throughout the county of Harlem.
* Opportunities and challenges
There is an increased public desire and need for expanded to street to make it easier for pedestrians and cyclists to use them with ease. Regional and local agencies, as well as other willing funders are willing to support the project to ensure that streets are safe and usable by all categories of the population including children, disabled individuals, and the elderly.
The main challenge is that the funds for developing and expanding the streets are limited, which is estimated at $1 billion dollars. In addition, the funds for raising public awareness about the street are scarce.
