Contratiempo is a 2016 Spanish crime thriller movie that was released on January 2017. The movie is known in English-speaking regions by the name The Invisible Guest. The movie was directed by Oriol Paulo. Contratiempo follows the story of Adrian Doria, a successful businessman who seems to have it all including wealth, fame, and also a family and a caring wife. However, his perfect life is about to fall apart when he is found lying next to the dead body of his mistress Laura Vidal. Accused of murder and with less than a few hours to come up with a credible defense as a last-minute eyewitness threats to seal his case, Adrian seeks the help of veteran lawyer expert who has never lost a case, Virginia Goodman. Finally, as the night drags on, different interpretations of what happed emerge, but all the same, it becomes evident that there can be more than one side of the story and in fact, only one side can be completely true (Holland, 2017).
One interesting thing about this movie is how Adrian thought he had it all but he is deceived in ways he never could have imagined. When Virginia Goodman arrives at his hotel room, she tries to give a side of the story that rids him of all guilt. Little does he know that Virginia Goodman is actually Elvira Garrido, the mother of Daniel Garrido whom Adrian had murdered. Mrs. Garrido disguises herself as Virginia, a lawyer recommended by Adrian’s lawyer, Felix. Mrs. Garrido as Virginia knows the intricate details of the case and she uses this information to get Adrian to confess about the murder of not only Laura but also her son Daniel.
