Li Bai was a popular Chinese poet and a romantic figure who took traditional forms of poetry to new heights of success. On the other hand, Wang Wei was a renewed Chinese poet, painter, politician and musician who gained fame during the Tang dynasty. Almost all of his poems are preserved and up to 29 have been included in the highly influential Three Hundred Tang Poems of the 18th century. Similarly, Tao Yuanming was a Chinese poet who belonged to the Liu Song and Eastern Jin dynasties. He is regarded as one of the finest poets in the history of China, who spent many years in reclusion. The poems of these poets have several similarities and dissimilarities.
One of the core similarities is that Li Bai, Wang Wei, and Tao Yuanming have written multiple poems about nature or natural beauty and universe. For example, in his poems titled Staying the Night at a Mountain Temple and Visiting the Taoist Priest Dai Tianshan But Not Finding Him, Li Bai can be found praising the universe in his distinctive way. In Staying the Night at a Mountain Temple, the poet says that “the high tower is a hundred feet tall; from here one’s hand could pluck the stars,” and this shows his love for the bright stars.
