A notable perception tendency that has my distorted my appraisal of other people and thus affected our communication has to do with the halo effect. A person’s physical appearance often forms a significant part of this effect. Individuals who are perceived as attractive are usually rated higher on certain positive attributes; something that can influence how others communicate with them. The halo effect can be described as a kind of a cognitive bias whereby my overall impression of an individual influences how I think and feel about his or her character.
