Introduction
It is imperative to note that the running of a health care organization requires a team spirit. It is therefore essential for all members within a committee-whether those in the management, on the medical personnel’s or on the committees to understand the role of shared governance and the proponents that constitute an effective governance approach (Choi, & Robertson, 2014). Many people have always misunderstood the roles of committees within a health care organization, with some thinking that these individuals are always paid which may not be apparently true.
This paper therefore seeks to determine and carry out an observation on the functions of the medical committee I belong to in the discussion of approaches of improving care methods in a health institution and the roles of the members including the manner in which interactions between the committee members are made and decisions are arrived at in a meeting.
The Function of the Committee and the Roles of Those in Attendance
Within a health care setting, face-to-face meetings remain the most viable ways to arrive at decisions, plan projects and solve problems. Meeting can therefore turn out to be productive and accomplish their set goals efficiently when the roles of every individual are defined clearly. Effective meetings therefore need proper planning and design and define the roles of each and every individual within the committee (Choi, & Robertson, 2014). Every individual; within a meeting remains responsible for the success of the committee meeting. However, it is imperative to note that some key roles and functions of some individuals include:
The Chairperson:
The chairperson remains the only individual who is responsible in ensuring that the committee meeting runs effectively. In his/her function, he considers the group’s task function that includes the decisions and actions which may seem vital to achieve and also maintains functions such as the welfare, relationships and the harmony of the committee (Smith, 2014). In essence, these functions therefore remain essential and if adhered to properly, they would positively affect the success of the company.
