Being the first born in a family of five, I always played the role of a parent in absentia of my parents. My father was an ordinary carpenter and my mother a peasant farmer in the province. Struggling to ensure that my siblings and I had the basic needs, my parents would work day and night just to make ends meet. Schooling in the best schools could never be an option for us as we rarely had proper meals in our childhood days. We barely fitted in the social cycles of our neighbors and friends, bearing the fact that it was in the 19th century and everyone seemed to have caught up with evolution. Poverty was our day to day companion, and we had grown fond of it. At the age of ten, I was able to do some odd jobs around the neighborhood to lighten the burden of my parents.
