Challenging Gender Narratives in the Society

Essay Instructions:

Reflecting on the four gender-related videos for Module 2, write a well-organized and well-supported essay in which you help challenge society’s limiting gender narratives.
A well-organized essay has a beginning, middle, and an end. The beginning, or introduction, should include an opening sentence to grab your reader’s attention. Follow the opening sentence with a brief background on the topic or situation. In this case, it would be an explanation of gender roles, stereotypes, myths, and/or controls in society today. The last sentence of the introduction is the thesis statement. The thesis states the main point of the essay, which in this case, would be a statement affirming what needs to be done to limit gender narratives in society today.
A well-supported essay includes supporting points, details, and examples. For this essay, you must decide the best way to organize the body of the paper. Will you have a paragraph for each change? Will you divide the body of your paper into three or more paragraphs, one for each point? In any case, each body paragraph must support (explain) your reasoning (rationale) using specific details. Each body paragraph must have a topic sentence that states the main point of the paragraph.
The conclusion typically summarizes the main points of the essay and/or closes with a lasting impression that connects the reader to their world. In this case, where is our society headed? Is it too late for change?
Be sure to proofread your essay and edit for proper grammar, punctuation, diction (word choice), and spelling, as errors in sentence skills, will lower a final grade. A grade will be determined based on Module 2 Case expectations and the Trident University General Education rubric for English.
Papers must be double-spaced in Times or Times New Roman font (12 cpi) with standard one-inch margins.
The first person "I" is not used in a formal essay.
This essay must include no less than SIX citations from the assigned background material for module 2. Citations are to be a combination of direct quotations and paraphrased quotations with or without the author's name. No other sources are to be used for this assignment.
Assignment Expectations:
Write an essay (no less than four pages in length) that states and supports an original thesis statement in which you help challenge society’s limiting gender narratives.
Demonstrate the ability to identify credible and reliable sources for use in a well-supported and cohesive essay.
Demonstrate the ability to write a direct quote, paraphrased, or summary citation in APA Style.

Challenging Gender Narratives in the Society Name: Institution: Challenging Gender Narratives in the Society Introduction Gender narratives have been prominent in the film industry, where some expound on some subjects that seem quite controversial such as stereotyping and gender roles. Some of the writers give limitations in their gender narratives, which seem to depict issues such as the marginalization of women or men masculinity, which might make the male gender to appear superior to the female gender. Examples of the narrative discussed in this essay include the 4 Ladies get the 'cover model' makeover of their dreams, Miss Representation, the mask you live in and Watch these four girls destroy the female stereotype like the monsters they are. All these videos attempt to show and challenge women marginalization in most of the societies as both males and females have the potential to accomplish a lot in the community. People should be judged through the content of their character, competencies, experiences, and capabilities other than their gender. Some of the communities still perceive women to be quite inferior. The essay reflects on the four gender-related videos and challenges limiting the gender perspectives and thoughts about women in different societies. Stereotyping, myths and gender roles as expressed in the four videos. The first video analyzed is on Miss Representation. From the themes experienced in Miss Representation include the aspects of stereotyping, gender roles and mythical beliefs about women in different societies. The media sells the young people the notion women and girls especially at young age value lies and deception in their youth lives. Other issues that the film portrays include the aspect of women focusing on their beauty and sexuality matters (Miss Representation, 2014). This portrays women as quite unfit in leadership positions. The film shows that women lack the capacity lead and leadership is a role left to men. However, this mythical belief has lies as women can lead based on their intrinsic character and not related to gender sexuality. The video further portrays boys and young men as individuals who can learn that they have success tied to them as they can dominate and cease power, leadership and they are designed to be aggressive. There is a need to value people holistically as human beings in the absence of gendered stereotypes, perceived roles, and abilities of women and beliefs that seem to marginalize the worth, abilities and capabilities of women (Ellemers, 2018). People irrespective of their gender need to be judged through the content of their character and personal capabilities to play different societal roles such as leadership and power. The next video on the analysis is the Mask You Live In. The video follows shows the struggles of young men and boys and show how they strive to remain true to themselves in an attempt to correspond to the stereotyping viewpoints of American masculinity. The media pressures young men to get into peer groups that often encourage men to disconnect from emotions as emotions are perceived to be feminine elements. American masculinity further teaches young men to make conflict resolutions through violent means, to devalue the worth of women and even to a...
