The purpose of the project
The Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI) project is proposed to reduce the infections and assist in prevention efforts. The project will prove vital in improving the health outcomes and detecting CAUTI. The burden of hospital acquired infections is a concern, and there is a need to address this for patients with CAUTIs. Even as there have been efforts to reduce mortality from urinary tract infections, the frequency of CAUTI among hospitalized patients is a concern as the cumulative effects of the infections is substantial (Saint et al., 2016). The Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infection project will be undertaken at the Los Angeles County Hospital to reduce the risk of CAUTI infection and facilitate proper care of patients with catheters and maintaining awareness reminds the clinicians when they need to intervene. The project proposes training, adherence to hygiene and awareness of CAUTIs to reduce infections.
Target population/ audience
The project is targeted at the hospital administration who will be informed about the need for the projected and nurses expected to implement core prevention strategies. It is expected that when the stakeholders are informed on the project they will be more likely to support changes. Positive nurse attitudes is crucial to the successful implementation of changes where the catheters are then inserted when appropriate unnecessary. The nurses are also tasked with maintaining the unobstructed urine flow and this facilitates proper drainage and reduces the risk of infections.
