Career Choice and Development
The road to career growth and development in postgraduate students is the most challenging phase in their lives. As an undergraduate student, there is no right method of knowing whether or not you have chosen the right career. Most people in their sophomore year tend to choose careers based on how interesting they loom from the outside while somewhere along the way they tend to realize that it is not all glamour as they expected and end up dropping from their classes. For this reason, the debate for career choice remains whether or not there should be more time given to students to equip them with more knowledge on careers. The lack of proper measures and strategies put in place to give relevant career advice is also questionable. Following twelve years of being tutored and directed all along, students are given a chance to pick what they want to do in life after high school. This disorientation is so far the largest contributor to school dropouts. As the research indicate, there is need to establish a system as early as possible to nature these students into mature adults (Michael & Cristina, 2015).
Career choices have been linked to employability after college. The competency of students is based on how informed they were when making the decision. For this reason, career development should be propagated from an early age so as to ensure that the student grows up with the proper mindset and put all their effort into making their career success. In collaboration with the employment industries, learning institutions should develop strategies to engage students as early as possible so as to ensure that they are acutely aware of what they are getting themselves in. Career self-management is an important aspect that they need to understand and if they grow up with this mindset, it will be easier for them rather than being ambushed when it is too late to change. This is of particular importance because then the students have the time to benchmark the different careers and find out what works for them and wh...
