Unusual Theory Of Time Borges The Garden Of Forking Paths
Paragraph 1
Time
Borges offers an unusual theory of time (which has since been corroborated by at least one theory in physics [The Many Worlds Theory]). The idea of time in the story can be seen in the following quote:
"The Garden of Forking Paths is a picture, incomplete yet not false, of the universe such as Ts'ui Pen conceived it to be. Differing from Newton and Schopenhauer, your ancestor did not think of time as absolute and uniform. He believed in an infinite series of times, in a dizzily growing, ever spreading network of diverging, converging and parallel times. This web of time - the strands of which approach one another, bifurcate, intersect or ignore each other through the centuries - embraces every possibility."
Describe in your own words what the theory of time in this quote/story is. How does that differ from our traditional view of time? In your own life, think of moments when you don't experience time in the standard way. What are those moments and what are they like?
Paragraph 2 The plot
Despite offering a bold re-envisioning of the way time works, Borges simultaneously wrote a spy story. Why? Consider Dr. Albert's discussion of the different branches of time:
"We do not exist in most of them. In some you exist and not I, while in others I do, and you do not, and in yet others both of us exist. In this one, in which chance has favored me, you have come to my gate. In another, you, crossing the garden, have found me dead. In yet another, I say these very same words, but am an error, a phantom."
What light does the theory of time
shed on the events of the story, including the quote above?

Borges idea of time is depicted in his unusual theory of time, totally different from a common man way of defining it, Borges went ahead and relayed his thoughts on time in the writing The Garden of Forking Paths. Reading his work one can observe the nature of a man who is faced with alternatives and chooses one at the expense of the other like in all other fiction that is he chooses simultaneously all of them in the Ts' ui Pen. In this, he creates various times, various ventures which in turn start others that are meant to branch out and bifurcate into other times. We observe that Borges does prefer to take a stand in chaotic aspects, bifurcations involving time whereas traditional scholars concentrated on fractal geometry involving space. The web of time is...
