It results in or causes its death. When it occurs spontaneously it is because of complications during pregnancy (Dutt, 1998). They can be accidental traumas, natural causes before the gestation period or environmental factors. Spontaneous abortion is also called miscarriage. Forceful or induced abortion is due to maternal health or fetal disease otherwise it will be referred to as selective abortion. The main reasons that a physician can perform abortion are to: save the life of the pregnant woman preserve the woman's physical or mental health; terminate pregnancy that would result in a child born with a congenital disorder that would be fatal or associated with significant morbidity; Selectively reduce the number of fetuses to lessen health risks associated with multiple pregnancies (Roche, 2004). There have been many debates on why abortion should be legalized or considered ethically correct. The debates have mainly pitted the pro-life against pro-choice. The pro-life are against abortion while the pro-choice have supported abortion. The first argument put forward by the pro-choice is the women’s bodily right. It was first put across by Judith Jarvis Thompson who stated that if the fetus has a right to life abortion is morally permissible because a woman has a right to control her body. The main reason by the pro-choice in support of this argument is contraception failed and they do not want to have a baby at that time. They support abortion due to this reason saying that it will lead to safer use of contraception and therefore, women should be allowed to abort for that.
