Abstract
People living together in a community are normally faced by various needs which when well resolved would improve their ways of living. When some of these needs are not well addressed and resolved they may lead to great hazardous effects. It is important that health and social workers involve the community in identifying and resolving these needs. The needs of a community should be assessed in a systematic way with the cooperation of all. It is important to carry out a systematic exploration of how things are and the way they should be (Community Needs Assessment).

In order to get a true picture of the community needs and to come up with comprehensive solutions requires a wide range of needs assessment methods and techniques. Some of the techniques involve direct observation, questionnaires, consultations with community key persons, interviews, work samples and records and report studies amongst other effective techniques which enables one to think out issues through productively as a community. It is necessary to consult the community about their needs in a genuine manner, with an open mind to change for the better. One should establish a way that provides the information required in finding solutions within the community present resources (Resource Center).
It is necessary to conduct interviews and background research about the problem by talking to a few influential persons within the community as well as to some grass-root individuals. The health worker should conduct own survey on how the locals feel about the trash disposal. The focus group will enable one to find out about people’s perceptions on waste management. Their perceptions should never be undermined but should be taken into consideration. Community forums are important in winning the community support. The community should be made to feel ownership of the process, that is, they should feel genuinely consulted and that their views have been taken into consideration. All stakeholders and partners should be gotten together in order to thrash out the community needs and how they should work out together (Husain, 2011).
