Steger, M. (2013) elaborates a contested concept that attempts to give the term globalization a definition. The concept roots from the fact that globalization becomes visible in around 1940s (Steger, 2017). However, globalization gained extensive traction in the 1990s. Similarly, for the concept is new, it was sometimes wrongly understood or assumed for the unstoppable juggernaut as the ‘Americanizing’ the globe. Nevertheless, there is a more shade of meaning in the understanding of the relations, interactions, or exchanges among the local, national, regional as well as the global. Such leads to the indiscriminate application of the term ‘globalization’ which is now confusing.
Thus, the concept here is that globalization implies to the combination of common/social processes which result to ‘globality,’ a social condition achieved via a growth in the global connectivity consciousness. However, there is no exact consensus on precisely what processes comprise globalization, but universal themes that explain the term include the conception and expansion of the social networks, intensification, and as well as the acceleration of the social exchange (timely consciousness) (Steger, 2017). First, globalization involves creation and expansion of networks. Similarly, the cultural and historical stage for the celebrated 2008 Beijing Olympic Games is an event that promoted globalization because it explored the fundamental links among gender, sports, state power, and Chinese nationalism (Brownell, 2009). It also explored the most critical issue of the national image of China especially the West for the century before the event thus creating and expanding a new image and network.
