The older generation or otherwise known as the baby boomers gravitate towards a different kind of advertisement than what newer generations take note of especially when it comes to buying a new cell phone because it is a must nowadays. A perfect example is the iPhone X and what type of advertising they have that attracts people.
The “baby boomers” is a group that is still comfortable with listening to voicemails. They were born from 1946 to 1964 and were raised believing in the American-dream, the white-picket-fence era that lived after World War 2. The newer generations are the ones teaching them about technology and they are slowly learning to appreciate it. In order for iPhone X to succeed in advertising to “baby boomers”, they need to utilize Brand Loyalty and if Apple is able to prove to them that iPhone X is worth it to buy and is really necessary for them, they will buy it.
Unlike the newer generation, they prefer to talk to a salesperson before buying anything so if they inquire about an iPhone X, avoid hard selling because there is a chance that they are really interested in the product. Do not make explanation to complicated and be very basic to draw them in.
Some companies tend to ignore targeting “baby boomers” but they are actually a huge potential because they already have the capacity to buy almost anything, but they do not conform to stereotypes. They may not switch brands right away, but attracting them could do wonders for a company, even cell phone companies.
The newer generations are born from 1965 to 1980 and most of the time they are the link between “baby boomers” and Millennials. They already have a mixture of health care, owning houses and are already at the height of their careers. This is a busy generation because they are old enough to have children, paying mortgage, tuition fees, and working more than others. It is also a generation that is active online and on different social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and others. Compared to “baby boomers”, they are more familiar with using technology, and tend to be loyal customers of a particular brand. Furthermore, they are known to stick to only one list every time they shop for anything.
