Analysis Paper Name Institution Analysis Paper Summary Gary Marcus’s article Will a Robot Tape Your Job? published on December 29th, 2012 is a thought-provoking piece which seeks to handle the topic of robots and their eventual effect on man’s occupation. This article is one that can also make one worried about their future as well as about how one’s life will be impacted when the imminent takeover by the robots happens. However, while on the one hand, the arguments presented in Marcus’s article seem to ask people not to get worried, they also seem to instill fear in people by providing another perspective which shows how robots may be gravely disadvantageous to man. While quoting Kevin Kelly, Marcus notes of how Kelly seems to believe that robots will lead to greater development and not doom as some might think. To make his argument believable, Kelly uses history as his reference point and notes that the same way man found a way to be useful after machines replaced him in the farms, he will evolve and make himself useful again. This Kelly says will be owed to the millions of jobs that technology will create after it has rendered some obsolete. One fact that is also overly mentioned is that productivity will also increase and the world will grow richer. However, the Marcus also notes that there is indeed a darker side of this entire story in that there is a possibility that people may fail to acquire any new jobs or make as much as they were making. The article ends by reinstating its initial position that maybe we are not as safe as we might presume to be because every occupation seems to be under siege.
