Assignment 2: Analysis on Food Security. Literature & Language Essay

Essay Instructions:

The members of the United Nations found great value in the analysis you provided on the effects of global warming that result from population growth. They are now asking you write an additional analysis to include further issues related to population growth. Here is the issue they have asked you to consider:
The member states of the United Nations seek to build food systems that can provide global food security which will feed everyone, everywhere, every day by improving food quality though the promotion of effective and nutritional agricultural practices. The crucial issue is not the lack of food in the world but the access to that food. In many developing countries, food shortages are due to governmental control over food distribution. These governments maintain control of the population and their power by limiting access to nutritious food to certain groups. In this practice, they thereby "weaponize" food.
Your second project as a consultant for the United Nations is to develop an analysis that addresses three issues related to global food insecurity caused by global population growth and poverty, and to explore these issues in a developing country of your choosing.
The UN has given you the following guidelines.
Content
The UN has asked that your paper contain three sections. Each section should be one page (or approximately 300 words) in length and answer specific questions, identified in the outline below. It also asks that you use examples from your developing country when answering the questions.
Introduction
Provide an introduction of half a page minimum that addresses points a-e below.
Explains the problem the UN has asked you to address in your own words;
Identifies the three sections your paper will cover;
Identifies the developing country you will consider;
Tells the UN the causes of food insecurity; and
Provides a one-sentence statement of your solutions at the end of your introduction paragraph.
Section I. Background
What is food insecurity?
What role does population growth play in food security?
Section II. Technologies That Can Reduce Hunger and Improve Food Security
What forms of technology can be used to reduce hunger and improve food security?
How would these technological solutions work?
What causes of food insecurity do these technologies address?
Section III. Specific Factors in Chosen Developing Country
Considering the causes of food insecurity, what factors interrupt the flow of food from the source to the people in the developing country you selected?
Conclusion
Provide a conclusion of half a page minimum that includes a summary of your findings that the United Nations can use to inform future policy decisions.

Analysis of Food Security
Introduction
Nutrition depends on whether an individual can access enough and valuable food for their daily living. Most countries have systems and departments responsible for managing food provision. They have laws, regulations on prices, and sale of food products. In developing countries like Kenya, this aspect of food insecurity is still a problem, and the government has to move with speed and determination to solve it. This is despite the country’s favourable climatic and physical features for the growth of enough food to feed its population. In the country, the causes of food insecurity are inadequate agricultural practices, and overdependence on unpredictable rainfall patterns to grow the same food (Kenya Agricultural Research Institute, KARI, n.d). For a better solution, the government of the Republic of Kenya should invest in adequate greenhouse technology, harvest enough water, and use for reliable irrigation methods to provide enough food for their people. This is the discussion this paper focuses on and provides a solution.
Section I. Background
Food security is accessing reliable and nutritious food to meet their daily demands of citizens’ diets. A country must provide enough food for itself, or import what is enough to feed its population. However, most states consider the ability to grow and ensure food security. Focusing on Kenya, there is rampant food insecurity, where the less privileged cannot access enough food for their people. According to the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (n.d), the causes of food security vary from the prices of the commodities, the supply and demand dynamics, the income of the people, among other factors. If any of these conditions do not favour a large population in a country, the situation degenerates into food insecurity.
The increase in population leads to increased demand for more food to society. The same production capacity of a country does not allow them to cater for the increased number of people. The result is an alteration in the prices, and demand concepts, leading to some people missing on food. Additionally, employment opportunities reduce, exposing most of the people to risks of missing enough meal if they cannot afford the income to purchase for their needed food. However, these concepts can change if a country established adequate use of technology to assist in mitigating the problem of food security.
Section II. Technologies That Can Reduce Hunger and Improve Food Security
One of the most common technology is irrigation. The process of doing proper irrigation depends on some factors, like the availability of enough water to channel to the farms and plantations. Taking an example of Egypt, they solely depend on the River Nile that originates from Lake victoria to do all their farming. They embraced a full irrigation and water supply scheme to farms. Kenya, on the other hand, could not use all its available river and water catchment resources to change this situation. Their rainfall patterns have been dwindling from 2008 to late 2018 when the rainfall patterns appeared to stabilize. However, the excess rainfall is al...
