weighting each in support of opposition to the author’s argument. The purpose of the essay then
is to lay out an analysis and critique of a primary source of the student’s choice.
This essay will remind you of an argumentative essay in the structure; however, you need to keep in mind that the primary objective is analyzing and critiquing the primary source you
have chosen. As a writer, you want to develop the discipline to remain focused and produce a
coherent piece. Bear in mind that a critique does not equal opposing the author. Rather, a critique
questions everything to get to the truth of any statement or data presented. Overall, your paper
should have
1) a clear introduction identifying topic & source and pointing to your,
2) a body approaching the 3-5 primary points in the original source along with the analysis/critique,
3) a coherent conclusion that brings it all together.

The world has been opened up into a global village as a result of increased interaction between individuals from different regions and diverse backgrounds. As such, multiculturalism and multicultural education have been identified as being core to the globalization efforts of many countries including Turkey. Many scholars have been instrumental in highlighting the significance of multicultural education. Most notably, Erbas (2019) has been at the forefront of advocating and championing for multicultural education because it will assist to unite the different cultures in the Turkish educational system. According to Erbas, it will help the diverse racial groups to interact freely. In this regard, Erbas has written case studies that examine the views and perceptions of Turkish teachers and candidates on multicultural education in the region. The purpose of this essay is to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of Erbas (2019) A Qualitative Case Study of Multicultural Education in Turkey by examining the goals, qualifying the methodological framework and offering insights on the conclusion reached.
A significant aspect that the author centers on is the fact that nearly all societies around the globe comprise of people from diverse cultures, ethnicities, religions and languages. According to Erbas, it is therefore, essential that school curriculums are revamped and remodeled to accommodate these differences and to meet the modern complex societal structures. In the modern world, it is vital that children are exposed to multiculturalism in school settings to enable them to be integrated as global citizens in any country they will reside later on in their lives. Erbas (2019) reiterates this position and notes “learning about different cultures, lifestyles, ethnicities, and all other forms of diversity allow students a more comprehensive view of the world that they previously held and a more appropriate lens through which to examine others”. In this regard, Erbas examines the perceptions, thoughts and beliefs that teachers in Marmara region, Turkey held regarding a course MULT-500 Multicultural Education that was introduced at Alpha University. Teachers are key figures in learning institutions and it’s important they have the right attitude on various courses concerning their students. Therefore, through the study, Erbas (2019) aimed at examining the definitions that teachers and teacher candidates harbor not only on multiculturalism but also multicultural education before and after taking the course.
In the conceptualization framework of the study, Erbas incorporated ideas from various scholars. The use of materials from other professionals and like-minded individuals is very important because it helps to provide a wide and better understanding of the matter. In this regard, Erbas examined levels of multicultural understanding by Nieto (1994). It was established that there are four levels of multicultural understanding which included tolerance, acceptance, respect and affirmation.
