  • It should be possible for an intelligent reader, who knows nothing of the material, to learn and understand the argument you have chosen to explain from reading your essay.
  • Be sure to explain the necessary background material in your own words.  (Do NOT simply repeat material that has been presented on lecture slides or in your recitation.)
  • In stating your novel position, be sure to express your ideas sufficiently clearly that a reader could understand your position from what you have written. 
  • Be sure to number your pages.
  • Be sure to cite your evidence for your attribution to the philosopher you have chosen (either giving a page number for his text or citing the date of the class lecture).
  • Bring a paper copy to lecture. Include your name, your TA’s name, and the day and time of your section on the BACK of the last page of your paper for anonymous review.
  • You must upload an electronic copy to Turnitin on Blackboard to receive credit for your paper.

However, others contend the argument and assert that people should not fear what does not inflict any form of suffering or pain on the body. Apparently, death brings the soul to a better place. Therefore, people should not perceive it as a painful event. Arguably, it seems difficult to prove or disapprove that life after death exists because people have to undergo physical death to either prove or disapprove it. Because of this continuous debate, the idea of life after death has remained a prevalent topic for most philosophers and religious bodies. Christians believe in life after death, which is one of their ultimate objectives in living a righteous life. Arguably, everyone has a body and soul that is immortal and likely to survive life on earth. However, the idea can vary across religions. Christians believe that they will share a form of eternal life with God after succumbing to death (Olson, 2016, p. 67). The belief of life after death makes people hopeful even after facing a deadly tragedy. Most Christians believe that heaven is the ultimate reward for obeying God’s commandments, while death is the punishment for evil doers. One of the greatest mysteries in life is what happens to people after death. Most people do not understand if someone goes to heaven or hell. Human beings are likely to enjoy life after death if they maintain a close relationship with God. Christians believe that Jesus Christ intervened to break the power of sin and death, thus ensuring people live a good life. In the excerpt, Sam seems to affirm that God will grant his people better bodies when they die. Moreover, all persons who glorify God will have an opportunity to enjoy everlasting life. According to Gretchen, people cease to exist after death. However, research suggests that only those who live a righteous life on earth will have the opportunity to enjoy life even after they die (Olson, 2016, p. 68).
