The Bioethical Issues of Stem Cell Technology

Essay Instructions:

Stem Cell Research Ethics
Identify the bioethical issues of stem cell technology, including both the decision making process and appropriate parameters for ethical actions.
And just as clearly valuable is the clear idea that the involvement of embryos will involve ethical questions for many if not all human cultures.
It is important when addressing discussion topics on ethics that you do not take a personal position. Your own opinion should not be apparent in your posts. Likewise your values and your cultural, including religious, heritage should not be revealed in your post.
In fact you may present the opinion of any culture or value system that you choose; it need not be a system that you agree with, it just needs to be an opinion which has been articulated in the published literature
Keep the following guiding questions in mind as you complete this activity taking care to ensure your response address them:
•Why is there such a world-wide fuss over whether stem cell research should be legal?
•There must be major ethical issues involved that cross nearly all cultures. What are those issues? How can they be sorted out?
Read the assigned materials, and also access 3 articles, which do not need to be peer-reviewed from the Excelsior College Library, or the companion website, www(dot)devbio(dot)com; at least one must come from the EC library.

Stem Cell Research Ethics
The major debate regarding human stem cells focuses on the derivation and utilization for research. Although there are fascinating ethical issues regarding the collection and use of adult stem cells from aborted fetuses and umbilical cord blood, the most severe debate to date has centered on the source of human embryonic (hES) cells (Lysaght, & Campbell, 2013).
The initial hES cells were isolated and cultured in 1998 from human embryos that had been donated by couples who were no longer interested in suing them for their individual infertility treatment. Since that period going forward, hES cell research has been caught in controversy. The most part of the controversy has been characteristic of a continuing public unrest regarding the harmful effects of science on the society. Since its initial use, hES cell research has hit on underlying dystopian concerns regarding human cloning and the commodification of human biological material (Hurlbut, 2005).
In the United States, the major concern regarding stem cell research is that five-day preimplantation human embryos are de...
