Problem of Overpopulation Name Institution Affiliation                           Problem of Overpopulation Population in the world has detonated over the last half-century. Historically, the world’s population stretched to 7.3 billion in 2015, and could remarkably attain 9-12 billion before 2050 (Uniyal et al., 2017). Uniyal et al. (2017) add that the rapid increase is worrying, since it causes an increment in the pace of environmental changes such as global warming. A number of factors associated with human activities causes overpopulation. For instance, poverty, poor contraceptive use, reduced mortality rates, and immigration (Baus, 2017). Other problems resulting from overpopulation include, lack of job opportunity, scarcity of resources such as food, water, and shelter (Baus, 2017). These resources are essential for the survival of humankind. This paper discusses the solutions to the problem of overpopulation. Solutions to Problem of Overpopulation Empowering Women Gender discrimination is a key aspect influencing population growth. Empowering women by integrating them to matters such as childbirth and sensitizing them to fight against discrimination promotes a sustainable society. Liberal women have fewer children and provide other beneficial activities socially, which help in the modernization of a society (Ehrlich & Ehrlich, 2012). Women enlightenment prevents uncontrolled birth rates, which eradicates overpopulation. The government can counter this by making the products available for free or at a substantial discount. Additionally, couples can be enlightened about sibling spacing, and how family planning improves the child and maternal health. Approximately 80 million of unaccounted pregnancies in a year can be curbed through access to family planning worldwide (Kryvi, 2013). Education Education to the general public, especially in the reproductive age group on the advantages of having small families, the effects of large families and overpopulation influences the size of families that such people will have in the future. In addition, schools can assimilate lessons about the population at all curriculum levels. Lessons taught on the topic enhances the understanding of overpopulation effects to children as they grow, obliging them to look for solutions to solve the problem. In middle schools, topics such as ecosystems, Earth’s climate and how human population interacts with these aspects can be introduced to impart knowledge to the students (Ehrlich & Ehrlich, 2012).
