The Problem of Evil and God Existence Name Institution The Problem of Evil and God Existence The proposition that God exists has raised a lot of debates globally as some people believe that there is no evidence to support the idea. The idea of the existence of God is derived from the Bible which was written by people who were guided by the Holy Spirit. However, another key issue that raises the debate on the presence of God in the world is the nature suffering and evil in the world. Pain and suffering has been interpreted to mean a forms of punishment by God on the human race which has often lead to people questioning not only the existence of God but also the motives of God on the suffering among his creatures. This has led to several questions among atheists who often question on the nature of evil in the universe in relation to the existence of God. Despite their argument, it’s a believable fact that all aspects in the universe trace their origin to the existent of an omnipotent being, God. According to the atheists, they do not attribute the evil and suffering to the existence of God. Instead, they have classified evil into the natural evils and moral evils. Natural evils are assumed to occur from natural causes such as death and diseases. On the moral evils, they argue that these are evils or types of suffering that people experience due to their disrespect or immorality which often leads to their suffering. The natural evils which often result to suffering can be referred to as “bad” occurrences rather than evil as interpreted by those who believe that God exists. However, to the atheists, labeling natural suffering as bad rather than evil does no difference in making it different from the suffering due to evil. Therefore, according to them, it’s either “God wants to eliminate bad things and cannot, or can but does not want to, or neither wishes to nor can or both wants to and can. If he wants to and cannot, then he is weak-and this does not apply to god. If he can and does not want to, then God is spiteful-this is equally foreign to god’s nature. If he neither wants to nor can he, then he is weak and a spiteful and so is not a god. If he wants to and can, then where do bad things come from? Or why does he not eliminate them” (Zagzebski, 146). In essence, in their view the nature and existence of the problem of evil is not attributable to the omnipotent being but rather based on the livelihood of the human nature and some are simply classified as natural rather than human causative. The problem of evil is both out of the principles of nature and will or human reason. The atheists support this argument further by focusing on the belief of the infinity of God. To them the infiniteness of God is interpreted in the goodness of God. However, close examining the world there is the presence of evil. Therefore, in their belief God does not exist. Besides, everything that occurs in the world can be accounted for by other principles such as science. In this regard science examines the nature of problems that occur among the human race.
