Cultural affiliations are not something that started yesterday. Indeed, traditionally, different groups of people related to others based on their culture type. For example, in East Africa, there existed two primary types of Nilotic speakers who were subdivided into various other small communities. They include the Shilluk-Luo and Nuer-Dinka groups. The latter was further divided into Dinka and Nuer. These two groups were alike physically and had similar customs and languages. In reality, it appears as if they had a common origin, although nothing is known about their divergence. By focusing on Nuer and Dinka, it is clear that small tribes were held together by their cultural ties.
