Artificial sweetener: Is it a significant replacement for sugar?
Introduction
Having read and analyzed two main articles on how to substitute sugar for human consumption, I know artificial sweeteners are an excellent sugar substitute. Blackman and Kelly (2016) in their article recognized that sugar-related diseases are rampant, calling for urgent intervention, and proposed that a sugar substitute is necessary. Sugar substitutes such as stevia, sugar alcohols, acesulfame K, aspartame, and sucralose are adequate for human consumption (Family Doctor, 2022). Can artificial sweeteners be consumed by obese, diabetic, and overweight individuals?
I know people around me who have diabetes. They are very conscious and careful about what they eat. Foods that contain too much sugar can be hazardous for them, including me. I believe that sugar substitutes lacking calories can benefit my life, especially by keeping my health away from obesity, diabetes, etc.
Evidence 
Are nonnutritive sweeteners safe and efficient?
Many Nonnutritive Sweeteners’ (NNSs) metabolism does not occur in the body. Therefore, they are undoubtedly safe for intake. Research by Sharma (2016) suggests that artificial sweeteners are becoming popular as sugar alternatives. The risen cases of diabetes, overweight, metabolic syndrome, and obesity, including sharp consumer cognizance, have resulted in a constant move towards utilizing artificial sweeteners, which are linked to low calories. Some individuals acknowledge these substances by different names, like low-calorie sweeteners, intense sweeteners, or nonnutritive sweeteners. The substances offer profound sweetness and fewer calories per gram. They are helpful in drugs, mouthwashes, beverages, and dietary foodstuffs. The American-based Food and Drug Administration (FDA) association has accepted six primary NNSs for human consumption and categorized them within the Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) group. These NNSs are neotame, stevia, acesulfame-K, aspartame, saccharine, and sucralose. Alitame and cyclamate are the two broadly applied agents in countries like China, Australia, and South America. FDA also approved the Siraitia grosvenorii fruit extract, a herbal-made sweetener. However, scientists have not reached a consensus concerning the secure usage of these sweeteners. NNSs comprise agents from distinct chemical classes and are increasingly sweeter than sucrose.
Artificial sweeteners’ role in the community
Purohit and Mishra (2018) believe that artificial sweeteners can be critical for obese or diabetics. The low-calorie substances are unquestionably safe to utilize, grant sweetness minus calories and are a combination of sweet foods for those who avoid refined sugars due to medical conditions. The past years have raised obesity cases across human populations and ethnic categories.
