Recently, some parts of California have experienced mudslides which has led to loss of lives and property. These mudslides have affected the California adversely and this essay seeks to elucidate on some of the ways these mudslides have affected the environment.
Mud slides destroy flora and fauna. Many species of living things are buried under the mud and that affects the ecological balance and diversity. Rescue missions are only aimed to rescue humans and pets and thus some flora and fauna is lost. The environment will take a longer while to reinstate its balanced ecological system. Thus, it is likely that some species may migrate or get buried under the mud. Mudslides such as those in Santa Barbara covering a large area affect natural migratory or predatory grounds for the animals living in these areas.
The origins of these mud slides are often left bare and exposed to weather elements which erode and degrade the value of the land. The exposed land is easily eroded and can form gullies and other destroy the aesthetic value of the land. Additionally, the further degrade the value of the land even after the mudslides.
