Tides are waves, but they have longer wavelengths compared to the ordinary wind waves, which cause sea levels to rise and fall periodically. In the oceans, tides tend to be more uniform and the rise and fall of the tides affects activities along the seashores (Horrigan & Mustart, 2009). The ocean surfaces rise and fall as they respond to the gravitational attraction of the moon and the sun, and it is these regular fluctuations that are tides. In a day the seashores gave high tides and low tides as the sea level change. A complete tidal cycle is a flood tide that mainly covers the near shore until there are high tides. This followed by the ebb tide, where the nearshore area is exposed, and like the waves and ocean currents the fluctuations in sea level are associated with generating untapped energy.
The gravitational and inertia interaction between the moon and the earth influences the lunar tides, where the cycle is completed in a tidal day or lunar day (Horrigan & Mustart, 2009). A complete tidal day is 24 hours and 50 minutes and the moon, which influences tides rises 50 minutes later each day. This explains why such waves arrive later each day. The moon does stay in one p...
