Week 1 Discussion. Positive and Negative Feedback in The Atmosphere

Essay Instructions:

During our first week of discussion, my goal is to get your familiar with how to make substantive posts in the discussion forums. Please make your discussion posts by "creating a new thread" as you reply to my discussion prompt for this week:
1) Part 1 - briefly introduce yourself (name, hometown, reason you're taking this class; what you hope to learn);
2) Part 2 - Then, consider this idea:
negative feedback occurs when a system is able to return to it's normal operating condition after experiencing a change;
positive feedback occurs when a system is unable to return to it's normal operation condition after experiencing a change.
Some geographers and other earth scientists have argued that earth's atmosphere is an example of both negative and positive feedback. Using your text and any other resources, explain how earth's atmosphere can force both negative and positive feedback. You can focus on the atmosphere as a whole, or discuss a particular part of the atmosphere that you feel answers this question.
While there are certain ideas that I expect to read in your discussion post, you should feel free to include those ideas that you feel are important and help explain your answer. Other resources beyond the course text and PPT will probably be very helpful here. When you cite material, be sure to include an APA citation at the end of your discussion post.

Positive and Negative Feedback in The Atmosphere
Part 2
Positive and negative feedbacks cause changes in the atmosphere where negative feedback causes a reduction in the effect of any changes in the environment, thus enabling a return to normalcy. On the other hand, positive feedback causes instability by increasing the effects caused by changes in the environment (Grodek, 2020). These changes are caused by different factors, including changes in the earth’s atmosphere that involve aspects of ocean warming, and cloud cover.
Firstly, ocean warming causes positive feedback in the earth’s atmosphere due to its ability to absorb carbon dioxide (CO2). Increases in the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, causing potential rises in atmospheric temperature. Consequently, such an increase in temperature causes the warming of the ocean (Grodek, 2020). In such cases, the oceans cannot efficiently absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, thus causing an increased level of the gas. Therefore, warmer oceans bring about an increase in levels of the CO2 gas, causing higher levels of concentration that intensify with time. However, an increase in ocean temperatures increases possibilities of evaporation from the surface of the ocean, which in turn increases the formation of clouds (Byrne & Schneider, 2018). An increase in the cloud formation on lower levels of the atmosphere increases the reflectivity, thus causing a cooling effect. The cooling effect is negative feedback, which positively affects the surrounding atmosphere.
On the other hand, cloud cover poses a great dilemma due to its effects on the earth’s atmosphere. Cloud cover causes both cooling and warming...
