In preparation for this assignment, please view the Jurisville scenarios and resulting simulations from Weeks 5 through 7 in Unit 2: Courts.
In the scenarios and resulting simulations, Tim Smith, senior criminal lawyer, discusses select cases and asks a paralegal to indicate which courts would have exclusive jurisdiction of the cases in question. He also discusses various pretrial procedures and illustrates them with select cases. Finally, Tim Smith introduces the case of Roland Gary, who served twenty-three (23) years in prison for a crime that he did not commit. The case brought to light several key issues, along with the manner in which they were resolved.
Use the Internet to research three real-life cases from the past five (5) years that fit the following criteria:
Cases that depict the unique processes related to different courts
The defendant accepted a plea bargain as an alternative to trial
The defendant was wrongly accused and later vindicated
Write a three to four (3-4) page paper in which you:
Discuss one (1) real-life criminal case, taken from current events, and identify the court that took jurisdiction. Explain why the court that took the case was the appropriate one for the particular circumstances.
Discuss the real-life case that you have selected, in which the defendant accepted a plea bargain as an alternative to trial. Give your opinion on whether or not justice was served in the case in question. Provide a rationale for the response.
Discuss the real-life case that you selected, in which, like Roland Gary, the defendant was wrongly accused and later vindicated. Explore one (1) key aspect of the case and examine its relation to the case at large. Describe the resolution to the selected case.

Statistics has it that many people are have been wrongly jailed for the accusations that they were not guilty of and later vindicated serving several years behind in different jails in the country. One of those people who have had to serve up to 23 years in jail for the offences that they did not commit; is a man from Brooklyn called Everton Wagstaffe. After almost 23 years in prison, and with many court battles Wagstaffe was finally vindicated by the Appeals court (Ford, 2015).
This essay examines how the defendant Wagstaffe was wrongfully accused but was later vindicated after the appeals court found him innocent.
The Content of Wagstaffe’s Case
In 1992, 24 years old by the name Everton Wagstaffe who had only a few minor issues with the enforcement officers due to the crack on cocaine sale. But unfortunately his encounter with the law enforcement officers was pretty serious (Ford, 2015). He was accused of kidnapping, sexual assault and murder of 16 year old girl called Jennifer Negron, in Brooklyn. For close to 23 years, Wagstaffe’s story was a very good story that clearly showed what it really means if someone says that work against all odds. When he first entered the doors of prison when purely functionally illiterate, but when was vindicated almost 23 years later, he left a totally changed man. He undertook several other courses while behind the bars that enabled him to how to read and write. He was so brilliant, that he was able to investigate his own case and in the end assisted the lawyer that had offered him pro bono services after sympathized with him. He was able to show that the law enforcement officers or detectives had wrongfully or randomly targeted him and his co-offender by the name Connor. The police detectives had organized for certain addicted prostitute to give false testimony against the accused Wagstaffe together with his co-accused Connor and in exchange for the clemency to the prostitute on her own case; despite the fact that she had never seen the two men that had been convicted. Her false testimony was able to send the once outgoing and jovial man to prison for almost 25 years until a judge or jury was able to overturn the conviction of Wagstaffe.
