The United States constitution is famous because of the precise balance of power between the federal and state governments that have proved effective for the many years it has been in existence. Due to federalism, America continues to be one of the most stable democracies in the world. The constitution is resilient because it has solved successfully the many disputes that have arisen over the years. As times change, the constitution has also changed to adapt to the changes through the several vital amendments. Three aspects of the constitution stand out and can come in handy to describe vividly the power of the National Government and that of the States.
The first aspect is that of separation of powers, a function that the constitution has done effectively. Both the national and state governments have exclusive powers set to help them manage the citizens. For example, the constitution gives the federal government exclusive powers of declaring war, coining money, conducting foreign affairs, and managing all activities related to the betterment of the citizen. The states also have exclusive power to conduct elections, providing public safety, healthcare, and welfare of residents of the state. They are also in charge of relationships between each state. By dividing powers, the organs have an equal responsibility towards building the nation.
