Position Paper: Must we always or sometimes need not obey the law?
Laws are for the general safety of the citizens, to protect them from the abuse of other people and the government. The proper implementation of just laws creates a check-and-balance of power to avoid stepping on the rights of each individual, while also ensuring the exercise of fundamental rights of the people, resulting in a stable community with peace and order. In an ideal world, the laws are always obeyed, and there is no injustice, oppression, or abuse. In this paper, I will argue that the citizens sometimes need not obey the law to create social change that will benefit the community and the whole justice system.
Just and Unjust Laws
Laws give and promote justice, and yet, some laws are unjust. These unjust laws do not uplift human dignity nor promote equity and the welfare of the citizens, thus contributing to the injustice and oppression that is already present if these unjust laws are blindly obeyed.
Government and the Citizens
