Jurisdiction is defined as power to relay the law. It outlays the limits of different court systems. In any case, the courts must have authority over the individual or properties. There are two types of courts, Federal courts, and State courts. State courts are established locally by the state in counties, cities, and states. Federal courts are more superior and outlay the legal scope of the United States. They are constituted and dispute cases involving Congress laws and the constitution ("Federal vs. State Courts - Key Differences – Find Law", 2017).
Jurisdiction defines cases, courts are accredited to listen. State courts possess an expansive jurisdiction as they involve cases that affect people. It is inclusive of robberies, violations of traffic rules, family disputes and breach of contracts. They are not authorized to hear cases involving the United States and specified federal laws ("Federal vs. State Courts - Key Differences – Find Law", 2017).
Federal courts are mostly involved in the constitution and specific laws instituted by Congress. First are the cases that involve the United States government. Disputes between parties of different states involving controversy surpassing $75,000. Further are cases of patents, copyrights, and Maritime laws.
There are situations where both courts have jurisdiction, and the parties have the mandate to choose their preference. There exist state laws that, if violated are in contention with the national constitution. This institute's mandate on Federal courts to hear.
