Informants can be defined as individuals who provide vital information concerning certain criminal elements to the police. There are various types of informants depending on whatever their intentions and expectations are. First, there are those who give information without necessarily expecting anything in return. These ones do it purely for purposes of neighborhood safety and security. Then there are those who do if for commercial purposes, expecting something in return. This might be through some form of payment or rewards .Finally; there are those who do it for social prestige, to be associated with the cops. All in all, the most important thing is the information that they give the police.
There are certain pieces of useful information that an informant that can give to the police, which goes a long way to help in solving a certain criminal case. The identity, through the names of the suspect or suspects is the foremost important piece of information (). This should not entail their nicknames.
