Facebook is one of the biggest social companies that has over 2 billion users. Its mission is to give its people the power to build the community by bringing the world closer and together. It’s aimed at sharing ideas and gaining knowledge from various people through effective and efficient communication. People use Facebook to stay connected with others and to know what’s going on in the world while sharing and expressing ideas that concern them. Facebook involve live streaming and sharing videos and comments that the members of the public view and comment. The teams of Facebook help solve problems and working together to empower people around the world while connecting in different ways. However, many people have used Facebook for violence and committing crimes. There have been recent killings through live videos uploaded on Facebook that many users view and later the Facebook team take it down. The murders taken live are disturbing and is unethical since many die on the live scene without getting help.
Facebook, however, has an ethical role in solving the crimes by taking down the videos and tracking the users immediately while rescuing the victims. They can also train the people on how they can reach the victims or contact the helpline if they encounter the scenario or track them and help rescue. Through this, many people will find help and ensure that the people who help in rescuing are rewarded to encourage others to do the same. In undertaking a legal duty, the Facebook team should track down the suspects and ensure that they seek the help of the police in ensuring they arrested and suffer and endure punishments. They should also share this through all the platforms and on the users of Facebook to ensure that people know the consequences and avoid doing the same. While providing these practices and in place and the legal and ethical duties are met, then there will be rescuing of crime victims.
However, social media platforms need to be proactive in dealing with their users, and this can be through ensuring that there is a code of conduct that should be maintained by each user who uses the site. The law of conduct can be that users should not use abusive, sexual or harmful acts will using the platforms, and when this happens they can be taken under the lawful actions, and their accounts are closed or deny them access to the platforms. In ensuring security in all the user's information that what they do online should be cleared and that when they finish browsing, then the users should be allowed to delete the data when they need to. Secure browsing will help users feel confident and undertake their activities properly.
The messages and information that the users share should be encrypted to ensure that what they post or share should not be edited by someone else and only then the users who posted the information can be allowed to do so. It also helps to prevent other users from gaining access to the information without the content of the person who shared or unless they have permission.
