The civil right act of 1964, championed by President Kennedy before his assassination, intended to coordinate African Americans into the standard of American culture. The bill has a number of provisions, but the most important provision is Title VII, which eliminates all forms of discrimination in workplace places (Karsten, 2006).
Title VII created five classes, which include national origin, race, color, gender, and religion. The protected classes with the most impact the workforce of the 20th century were race and color. After abolishing discrimination these classes have influenced workforce by initially offering unskilled labor and toward the end of the century they offered skilled labor.
According to Karsten (2006), the class most likely to influence the 21st-century workforce is the gender class. With evolution is the education sector, all genders are being offered a chance to acquire skills with no biases. This has created equality in terms of skills for all. With Title VII eliminating discrimination based on sex, all genders can work in any field provided they have the skills.
Work-life balance refers to the relationship between a person’s work and family duties, and how they influence each other. The best work-life balance promotes the wellbeing of the workers.
Work-life conflict arises from different sources, both from family and work. These are issues such as long working hours, unpredictable working schedules, unfavorable working hours, and unpredictable care requirement(Karsen, 2006)..
