Difference Between Ethnicity and Culture
Culture refers to the social, behavioral patterns formed by an individual. On the other hand, ethnicity entails categories of people who share the same value systems, origins, and nationality. Another significant difference can be viewed from how these two aspects are identified. A culture is identified through social behaviors, food, customs, values, and art, while ethnicity mainly comprises religion, physical appearances, and dressing codes. Ethnicity is acquired by birth, while cultures are acquired through interactions with those in our intermediate surroundings (Patrick, 1998). Culture can also be acquired and learned, while ethnicity cannot be acquired or learned. Finally, cultures are not related to countries, while ethnicities are closely associated with one’s nationality.
