Read the case below and complete this assignment.
A child was playing in a local park with his brother. A car pulled up as they were leaving the playground. A man inside the car motioned for the two (2) boys to come over. The man asked the two (2) boys where the nearest convenience store was located. He then stated that he was not familiar with the area and asked the boys to show him the way and he would take them home afterwards. He also stated that he would buy them whatever they wanted if they agreed to show him. The youngest brother got into the car with the man and they drove away. The older sibling ran home and told his mother what had happened. The younger brother was not heard from that night and a report was made to the police. The next day a body was found in a dumpster behind a local garage. It was the younger brother, who had been strangled to death and was nude.
Imagine that you are the lead investigator in this case and develop a two to three (2-3) page investigation plan in which you:
Outline the main steps that you would take immediately as it relates to the investigation of this case. Support your response.
Propose your methods for evidence collection. Next, predict the main evidence that you would expect to find regarding the investigation of the death of the boy and the arrest of the suspect. Support your response.
Propose the main investigative techniques that you would use to investigate the murder in this case. Provide a rationale for your response.

In the case, members of the family have lost a loved one, and the investigators have to do their best to provide them with answers. According to the National Institute of Justice [NIJ], it is imperative for death investigation to adhere strictly to guidelines. In this case, where a boy has been strangled to death, the investigator must gather evidence that will help in the identification of the suspect and conviction of the murderer. As the lead investigator in the case, I would follow the following steps to ensure the suspect is brought to book and the members of the family get answers:
1 The first step is securing of the scene. According to Bertino & Bertino (2012), this is the task of the first responding officer who will ensure all the individuals in the area are safe. After ensuring the safety of the people around, what follows is evidence preservation. In this case, all unauthorized persons are kept away from the scene. Therefore, as the lead investigator, I would expect these procedures to have been followed by the first responding officer.
2 Separating of the witnesses is the next second step. In this case, witnesses would not be allowed to converse with one another. This will be done to avoid collusion.
3 The next step is the initiation of a preliminary survey. In this case, the investigation team will be trying to find out how the suspect entered the garage and dumped the body in the dumpster. Overall photos of the scene will also be taken in this step. In addition, I would find out whether the surrounding areas have information connected to the death of the boy.
