The Declaration of Independence is the most significant document in the history of the United States. It sheds light on the core ideas the Founders presented about the government as well as contains their complaints against the British government. For quite a long time, the British government allowed the colonists to govern themselves. Finally, in the 1760s, Britain tightened its control over the colonists and passed new laws to overcome their trade. In April 1775, a war was broken out between Britain and America, and it was regarded as the American Revolution (Brown, 2017). Right after this battle, the colonists of the United States created a whole new government. The Continental Congress chose Thomas Jefferson as the head of its committee, and in July 1776, the members of the Continental Congress mutually decided to sign the Declaration of Independence.
