Ideally, the choice of research methods used in a study can influence the nature of answers to research questions. For instance, using quantitative research methods necessitates the collection of numerical data while in qualitative data non-numeric answers. Additionally, using survey methods in research would require the use of close-ended questions. For example, when finding whether the goal of sentencing should be to promote offenders' punishment or rehabilitation, fixed answers would be provided so that respondents can select their answers from the choices provided (Mears, Pickett & Mancini, 2015). Besides, sampling strategies used in the research need to reflect the target population; in this case, studies in criminal justice in the country should have samples from several states.
