Not every IT project can be approached with either of the two approaches. Instead, the requirements of different projects are what determines the most suitable approach to use. The agile approach, for instance, is best used in projects whose requirements are not definite as the method involves completing many small projects within a big project (Thesing, Feldmann & Burchardt, 2021). Projects such as prototyping, where the requirements are not obvious, are among those that need to be implemented using the agile approach. Product development projects are also best implemented using the agile approach as they involve flexible deviation from the original plan. Customer delivery projects that tend to ease customers' access to certain services are also well implemented through an agile approach. The customer needs to vary from one person to another, hence the need to incorporate that flexibility when developing a system for customers.
On the contrary, unlike the agile approach, the waterfall approach is more sequential. It involves the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) division into different phases, and phases can only be conducted after the other depending on their interrelationship (Thesing, Feldmann & Burchardt, 2021).
