Automated Surveillance Analysis Tools
The current technological advancements have enabled IT companies to develop automated surveillance tools. These tools play an essential role in monitoring people and recording real-time activities. Such data can, in turn, be used for various purposes, such as finding criminals. An example of such technology is Wide-Area surveillance. This technology enables the user to monitor a large area and has a rewind button. The user can use this button to replay the movement of cars and people. The technology would be most useful to the police because their roles require them to be interested in people affairs. Therefore, the police department in Canada should use automated surveillance tools because they make it easy for them to track criminals, allows surveillance discretion, and have reduced investigation costs.
Automated surveillance tools make it easy for the police to track criminals. The surveillance tools have the capability of recording events as they take place. For example, the Wide-Area Surveillance tool enables the police to monitor a wide area using cameras installed in choppers. Once an unusual activity has been reported in a certain area, the police can replay people and cars' movement in such an area. They would then get first-hand information of what happened, thus allowing them to launch an investigation as soon as possible. The automated surveillance technology would facilitate the ease of getting the necessary information needed to track the criminals. If Canada's police department is allowed to use such technology, they would no longer need witnesses to get an account of what took place. The surveillance tools would offer footage showing the criminals' hiding areas, thus making it easy to track them. In the absence of these surveillance tools, the police would have to rely on witnesses to get the information that would be required to track the criminals. It would take long before the criminals have been tracked and arrested. Therefore, the surveillance technology would enable the police to track criminals and arrest them faster than in the absence of the technology.
The automated surveillance tools would enhance the outcome of surveillance discretion. The police have the freedom to focus their investigations on a particular person or people (Joh, 2016). For instance, the Wide-Area Surveillance tool would enable the police to identify certain people at the scene of a crime. They would investigate such people to determine whether...
