Essay Instructions:

White paper that introduce AI face recognition application in public camera like cctv, traffic camera. Focus on the paper and design for the white paper. That need ten slice power point also. Do not need to long that the presentation just has five minutes to introduce this white paper. I will give you some example for paper that you can see the style of this white paper.

WRIT 307 PRO 4 Assignment White Papers and PowerPoint/Prezi Slides Point Value 125 (110 Paper / 15 Slides) Length / Format 1,300 (+/- 100) words (word count does not include Title Page, Abstract, Table of Contents, References, Appendix Items). The expectation is for revised, lean, active writing. Description “White Papers” are common in all disciplines, but what “White Papers” look like varies among the disciplines and applications ---- just something to be aware of. A White Paper was originally (1920s) associated as a government report on a topic. It still is. A government White Paper represents an official stance on an issue. Its intent in this situation is to educate the public by stating current problems and proposing a solution (or declaring a solution), or even a series of solutions. Today, a White Paper is still seen as an authoritative report on an issue. This is true in both government sectors (i.e. DNR, OSHA) and also within professional organizations (SPE, AADE, AMA). White Papers also work on more “unofficial” levels. In these situations they don’t represent an official government or organizational stance, necessarily, but are considered “working documents.” They are still a problem / solution format, but there is more variance in how the content is partitioned (i.e more focus on the problem and past attempts to deal with it, more focus on multiple solutions, etc.). Complicating the scene are business and marketing organizations that capitalize on the rhetorical appeal of the term “White Paper” to promote a product or service. In these situations, there often aren’t multiple options provided; usually the solution is the product or service. Topic Selection For PRO 4, take a traditional, middle-of-the-road approach to a White Paper. Work within a Problem / Solution / Solution outline with a topic related to your future career. You’re not really giving an “official stance” for an organization, and you’re not “selling” a product or service. Aim to have a variety or range of solutions, with more content provided to the solutions rather than the problem. For evidence, think in terms of case studies or benchmarks. Use a new topic from PRO 1/PRO 2. I would recommend using smaller and more narrow topics (i.e. “Development of NGV stations in the MOV”) rather than overly broad topics (i.e. “Use of NGVs”) or overly complex (i.e. “Re-engineering the US Energy Grid”). HINT: Limiting a topic to a regional perspective allows you to more easily locate benchmarks. 2 Goals (AKA “Why are we doing this?”) Aside from understanding and working within its nuanced meaning, here’s what I’m hoping you get out of the White Paper (PRO 4): • Keep a focus from PRO 2 on the content and components of technical reports (i.e. titles, abstracts, table of contents, introductions, headings, sub-headings, footnotes, crossreferences, appendix items). We’re not going to devote class time on these concepts in PRO 4; you are, however, expected to demonstrate your understanding of these concepts in PRO 4. And yes, you’re still expected to paraphrase / document from ethos-building sources (primary and secondary). • Also keep a focus from PRO 2 on being concise at the sentence level. Use active rather than passive sentences, avoid weak verb structures, check for nominalizations, and eliminate unnecessary prepositional phrases. After PRO 1 / PRO 2, you probably realize the importance of time in the revision process for this kind of attention. Manage your time well. Reflect back on how helpful it is to write a larger draft that you can parse down to be more efficient and active. • Our new, big focus in this unit is on Pathos – learning to appeal to emotions. While being objective is an important aspect of the paper, using pathos is a way to sneak in subjectivity and still provide an element of influence on the reader’s perceptions. We’re going to accomplish this by adding visuals (and color) to our text, understanding sentence structure and variety, and further applying page design theory through examining font choice and image arrangement. Your PRO 4 final draft also serves as your PRO 5 rough draft. In PRO 5 (Feasibility Study) you will need to add content and provide a framework for evaluating your solutions. A small twist on this project is that you are also turning in PowerPoint slides (or Prezi or Keynote). We’re going to eventually orally present PRO 4 (as PRO 5), so we’re going to use PRO 4 as a way to introduce slide design and check out a rough draft of your slides. DO NOT write PRO 4 as if you’re delivering it as a speech. Components (AKA “What’s Required?”) Your White Paper needs to include the following: • Title Page / Abstract • Table of Contents • Introduction (a quantitative look at a problem/opportunity) • Background / History (past methods for dealing with problem/opportunity) • Main Headings / Sub-Headings (both required; think in terms of benchmarks or solutions for heading / sub-heading titles) • Conclusion (Don’t worry about conclusion until PRO 5) • References (if not using the full citation in the footnote) (5 sources; primary and secondary) • Appropriate use of color, font, and overall page design • Appendix Items (2) • Visuals (3) embedded within the paper • PowerPoint Slides / Prezi / Keynote / Slideware 3 Evaluation Criteria (AKA “What am I looking for?”) PRO 4 Rubric: Slides Metric Comment Grade Effective Title Slide (Audience, Purpose, Name, Date) 6/6 Guidelines Application of Page Design (Contrast, Repetition, Alignment, Proximity) Free of Errors (Spelling / Grammar) Overall (4) PRO 4 Rubric: White Paper Metric Comment Grade Does your project meet the goals of the assignment (formatting, word count)? Does your project provide a sufficient title, abstract, table of contents and appendix items? Does your project contain a clear introduction w/ quantifiable problem or opportunity? Are footnotes and cross-references used throughout the text as a method for reducing word count? Are your paragraphs structured around main ideas, and are these paragraphs fully developed (i.e. thorough and sufficient research)? Are paragraphs easily digestible, with an eye toward smaller paragraph sizes? Do well-placed headings and sub-headings easily guide your reader’s journey through the essay? Is the research “layered”? Does research build Ethos? Is information paraphrased instead of directly quoted (except for when quotation necessary) and correctly cited (footnoted / cross-referenced)? Are benchmark sources / case studies used to support content? Does your project include at least 3 visuals? Are they integrated correctly? Does PRO 3 appeal to other aspects of Pathos (color, sentence structure and variety, connection between visual and text)? Is the writing free of errors? Does PRO 4 show evidence of stylistic revision (i.e. weak verbs, prepositional phrase, noun stacks, choices in diction)? Overall (4) Schedule *We’re slightly off schedule from the syllabus.
