What was the expansion process of American territory until the end of the Spanish-American War?
Westward expansion. The United States expanded to the West aided by the concept or idea of manifest destiny. Manifest destiny was the belief among the white Americans that they should be in control of North America.
What was the American isolationism before America entered World War II?
American isolationism was America’s reluctance to be involved in European matters. The United States thus absconded or stayed away from wars and alliances that happened between the European countries. It should be noted that the United States sought to expand its territories and further is ideological interests. However, it sought to achieve its goals without entering being a part of European society.
Part 2
The United States did not have an expansion strategy like the European countries. Britain, Spain, France, Portugal, Germany, etc. all had expansion strategies and in the 19th and 20th centuries, these countries controlled large tracts of land. Britain was the superpower and was keen to maintain this status. However, when the United States gained some relevance, no one foresaw the power shift that came to happen during the first half of the 20th century.
For the United States, expansion happened westward into Mexican territory. The main reason for this was manifest destiny which was a belief in the white Americans that they should be in control of entire North America. So, the United States fought and took land that belonged to the Mexicans as well as the Indians who had lived in these lands for years.
