Class differences in China
The social class involves a clear distinction between social groups of China. In this regard, between 221 and 1840 BC. The Chinese people lived in four classes, which include landlords, peasants, artisans, and merchants. The two major classes were landlord and peasants, where the other two were minor classes in China. The classical error was between 1730 and 1820 (Li, 2017). During this period, social hierarchies were established where they were divided into three major categories, shi, nong and gong, and shang. The shi were considered as scholars, nong, gong, and shang as merchants. These hierarchies in the Chinese were of great importance for the Chinese society because the higher the rank, the more the group has an increased level of responsibilities. They were considered to be adding value to society, whereas the lower classes had a reduced level of responsibilities. For instance, the scholars in the Chinese government had the highest level and were held in high regard in society. They had the highest level of education and served as advisors in the country. The nong/farmers also played a critical role in the rise of Chinese civilization, where the produced foods that were being consumed by all community. In this regard, they were also important members of society (Miao, 2016). The ging/artisans were held in higher regard compared to merchants because they work in the government and business to ensure the smooth running of the country.
Status of women in Athens and Sparta
The women in Sparta were held in high regard, as this is evident from being allowed to move outside and could take part in education, military, as well as participate in a political matter. Also, they could also be allowed to inherit properties from their diseased husbands (Sealey, 2016). Women from Athena were not granted such rights. As a result, they were not engaged in matters of politics, could not inherit property. On top of this, they could not participate in the military. Because of these rights granted to the Spartan women, they were promiscuous and were known to control their husbands, which was not evident from their counterparts in Athena. Thus, the Spartan people considered everyone to be equal regardless of gender, age, and family background (Howe, 2016).
