One of the French characters that were fearful during the French revolution was Marguerite St. Just, also known as Lady Blakeney. Firstly, Lady Blakeney is worried because Chauvelin found a letter signed by Armand, Marguerite’s brother, which he used to blackmail her into helping him find Scarlet Pimpernel or else he would ensure that her brother is executed (p.100). Lady Blakeney is worried about the safety of her brother, who already left for France. She is afraid that helping Chauvelin to find the Scarlet Pimpernel would put her life in danger because Pimpernel is a brave and nobleman.
