Option 2: Create and Curate Your Own Art Museum
For this paper, you will select and curate ten (10) works of art to include in your own Art Museum. Use the text and online sources to help you find these works of art. This assignment is an alternative option for visiting a museum or art gallery.
After researching, answer the following questions by writing a two to three (2-3) page report, (750-800 words) that describes your experience.
Select ten (10) works of art from at least five (5) artists from different time periods discussed in the text, 18th century to modern times.
Provide a brief description of each piece and a picture if possible, explaining why you chose each piece.
Describe where and how you would display each piece, whether individually or grouped together.
Describe the museum attendees, the admission charges, the advertising programs, and your role as museum founder and curator. Give your museum a name and a location.
Use at least the class text as a reference (additional sources are fine but not necessary unless required by your content). Your report should include connections you make between things observed in your activity and things learned in the course and text.
Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:
Be typed, double-spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow Strayer Writing Standards (SWS) format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions. (Note: Students can find Strayer Writing Standards materials located in the Additional Resources section of their Student Center within their course shell for reference.)
Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student's name, the professor's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.
The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:
Explain the importance of situating a society's cultural and artistic expressions within a historical context.
Examine the influences of intellectual, religious, political, and socio-economic forces on social, cultural, and artistic expressions.
Use technology and information resources to research issues in the study of world cultures.

Surreal Museum Name Institution Due Date Surreal Museum Theodore Gericault The raft of the Medusa (1818-1819) The raft of the Medusa is not a simple piece of art. This masterpiece captures the events of a devastating shipwreck. As per the artsy.net (2019), “the painting’s allusions to governmental negligence and corruption ignited great controversy and brought Gericault widespread attention.” He made a statement and having this in my museum would inspire other artists to see how they can impact society with their work. Boxeurs (1818) As he was practicing lithography, Gericault managed to perfect it, and in Boxeurs, he is showcasing the sport of boxing. However, he adds a tinge of race by pitting a black man against a white man. This piece makes the understanding of conflict quite vivid, and I must have it in my museum. Vincent van Gogh Wheatfield with Crows (1890) Van Gogh is a man who said a lot of things with his pieces. The Wheatfield with crows is considered one of his greatest pieces. It is believed to be a message about his impending departure. However, one can also argue he wanted to share the healthy and serene environment of the countryside. There is no artist that could capture a moment as best as Van Gogh could and this moment is one that ought to be shared with the world. Self Portrait with Bandaged Ear (1889) Capturing oneself in a piece of art is difficult, but Van Gogh managed to capture himself quite perfectly after he hurt his ear. There is no reason why I would want this other than because Van Gogh is one of the greatest if not the greatest artist. Honore Daumier Equilibre Européen (1867) In this piece, Daumier was trying to communicate his ideas regarding the state of Europe. This was during the Austro-Prussian war and the Franco-German war. Europe was indeed hanging in the balance, and the ball could roll in any direction. I must have this piece to help emphasize the importance of unity. A region must never be left vulnerable. The Third-Class Carriage (1862-1864) Daumier is a man who liked to communicate with his work. In this particular piece, he is showcasing the deplorable conditions of the third-class carriage. I must have this in my collection because it helps to speak against the sin of inequality in the community. Giambattista Tiepolo Queen Zenobia Addressing Her Soldiers (1725/1730) This is an image or piece of art that showcases power representation in art. Queen Zenobia addressing her soldiers is not like any...
