From a biological point of view, it is a convention for humans to respond to a stimulus in a certain manner. Psychological freedom comes in when one can alter and probably empower the response in a manner that he or she wishes. From a more elaborate perspective, psychological freedom can be understood to break the social mode of responding to stimulus. As per Schmidtz and Brennan's (2011) chapter on psychological freedom, the outcome of an event sometimes varies according to the course of action taken depending on the advice from the cognitive reasoning. Anticipating for a particular outcome for every choice taken implies that humans have a reason for every undertaking. Also, psychologists believe that some factors limit humans from expressing what is on their mind freely, in other words, psychological freedom is a bond to be curtailed. Among other things, social pressure, self-deception, and discontent are the most common inhibitors of autonomy of the human mind. Fortunately, there are proposals on how to handle these obstacles, one being the idea to embrace moral education (Schmidtz & Brennan, 2011) as well as normalizing having gratitude on what we already have.
After the Second World War, the federal government realized that there had been ongoing discrimination based on race and ethnicity. Consequently, other than advocating for economic freedom, the federal government led by the different administration, the likes of Roosevelt and Truman (Tsesis, 2008), had to intervene.
