Proto renaissance refers to the pre-renaissance time (13th and 14th centuries) when Italy was forefront in the fine art industry. Painters and artists like Giotto brought forward numerous forms of art in their respective periods, and their activities and contributions to art dominated the world for over two centuries. On the other hand, the renaissance refers to the 14th to 17th centuries when Europe gave the world a large number of artists, painters, and creative-minded individuals. This period is often considered the bridge between the Age of Enlightenment and modern history of art, with traces found in not only Italy but also across Europe.
