The printing press is considered to be one of the most revolutionary and disruptive technologies that shaped the world that we live in today. From the time of manual and tedious publication towards the inception of mechanical and efficient printing, Gutenberg’s invention is deemed to have ushered the future by freeing knowledge from handwritten tomes, thereby making it free and available for anyone. In this article, the author would discuss how the mechanical printing press has brought about a revolutionary change during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. This includes its effects in society as well as its contribution to the advancement of technology. All in all, the author believes that the development of the printing press has brought about a series of changes that have built the current society that people live in.

One of the main contributions of the development of the printing press during the fifteenth and sixteenth century was the exponential increase in the dissemination and access of people to knowledge. Since writing multiple volumes of texts take a lot of effort, time, and resources, most of these ‘ancient knowledge’ were kept in secretive libraries that were primarily controlled by those in authority (i.e., friars).
