Napoleon Bonaparte was a military general in France. He is also known as the first emperor of France and one of the world's prominent military leaders. Many things make him prominent as a leader. Napoleon was responsible for the developments and revolutionization of the military, including how soldiers are trained. He was responsible for the development of the Napoleonic Code, which guided the civil life of France. The code government essential aspects of the society such as colonial affairs, property ownership, rights and freedoms of the people, and family governance (Gates, 2011).
Napoleon was responsible for the spreading of the values and ideals of Enlightenment across the continent. The civil code he sponsored and developed is still being used in many parts of the world. He also influenced many reforms in the western world, such as education, banking, and meritocratic regulations. He also influenced the formation of certain developmental policies that acted as a basis for the industrial revolution (Duquette, 2012).
There were several causes of the Napoleonic wars. First, the wars involved France against neighboring nations. The French Revolution was the main cause of wars. After much excesses that resulted from the revolution, Napoleon restored peace and set the country on a path of peace. The goals were to secure France and, probably, his ambitions to rule. Napoleon overthrew the government and established himself as a ruler in 1804 (Duquette, 2012).
