The Mexican-American war (1846-1848) marked the first armed conflict fought on foreign soil. The war was driven by American’s greed for expansion into the divided Mexico. The United States believed in the “Manifest Destiny” that meant America’s destiny lied in expanding the country’s borders. Mexico was a bordering state making it the best target for America’s expansion to the Pacific Ocean. Another lead to the Mexican-American war was the Texas war and the unending annexation that caused several battles between the Independent “Texican” republic and Mexico.
