Dear Dad,
I hope you are doing well in China. I want to acknowledge you for the support throughout my childhood. Growing up, I never knew that I would have this opportunity to land in the United States. I arrived at Angel Island two weeks ago. I am happy to let you know that the situation is very good and people are very considerate in the interrogation process. I am very grateful to my uncle, Kim Yoon, for the opportunity and assistance in facilitating my journey to the United States. The experience at Angel Island is excellent. Albeit, there are instances where the interrogation officers impose hard questions about the cultural and family background.
I have been here for about two weeks now and I am happy to let you know that I am fairing well. I recall the essential lessons you taught me. You always wanted me to be resilient and focused, no matter the challenges that I experience in life. These are things that I cannot forget as I go through the interrogation activities at the Angel Island Immigration Center. There are daily activities that include inspection of health and multiple sessions for questioning. I always remember your words and intend to live by them. I know that the process will be over soon.
