Letter to loved one. History Essay. Letter to Dad.

Essay Instructions:

After 1906 the doors opened a bit to enable family members (both real and false) to venture into the US via Angel Island. For this discussion, I would like you to take on the character of an immigrant at Angel Island (1906-1943).
You will be writing a "letter" back to your loved one in China (spouse, parent, sibling) and will include the following:
Name
Gender
Age
Who you are writing to
Who sponsored you to the US
What your experience has been like so far at Angel Island
Daily activities
Experience in interrogation
Past times
Length of stay so far
Example:
Dear Mom,
I am happy to be writing to you from Angel Island, and sad that in my 22 years in China I never got to really learn all that I wanted from you. I just arrived and the situation is not so bad! My husband said that we would be reunited soon and I'm very hopeful.....(This would just be the start)
It is really up to you to decide what tone to set. Many immigrants decided to sugar coat the situation so their families would not worry, other's were very honest so their families knew what to expect when they decided to sent someone else over.

I am very grateful to my uncle, Kim Yoon, for the opportunity and assistance in facilitating my journey to the United States. The experience at Angel Island is excellent. Albeit, there are instances where the interrogation officers impose hard questions about the cultural and family background.
I have been here for about two weeks now and I am happy to let you know that I am fairing well. I recall the essential lessons you taught me. You always wanted me to be resilient and focused, no matter the challenges that I experience in life. These are things that I cannot forget as I go through the interrogation activities at the Angel Island Immigration Center. There are daily activities that include inspection of health and multiple sessions for questioning. I always remember your words and intend to live by them. I know that the process will be over soon. I have been able to meet various people from our hometown, and everything is working out well for us. I will write to you as soon as I am done with the process. There are many valuable l...
